The main purpose of pilates is to strengthen your core muscles and create a strong, flexible body. Each of the machines below are very effective at helping you get a great core workout.

	Malibu Pilates Machine A new variation of the pilates equipment is the Malibu Pilates machine. It is a compact machine that can be folded up and put in a corner or under your bed. It uses springs for resistance and comes with a complete workout plan that will challenge you whether you are a beginner or pilates master. It does a great job at strengthening your core muscles and will help you get a flat sexy stomach or even ripped, six pack abs. I have used this machine and it gives you great workouts. There is currently a $14.95 30 day trial so you can check it out and see if it will help you reach your abdominal fitness goals. If you like it, keep it and you will be billed. If you don’t like it, send it back and pay nothing. This product is endorsed by famous actress Susan Lucci. You may have seen her on a Guthy Renker commercial advertising this.
Traditional Pilates Machines (Reformers) Traditional pilates machines, sometimes called a pilates reformer, are consist of a frame that has a sliding carriage on it. There are pulleys, straps, and handles that attach to the carriage which allow you to pull the carriage on its track. Springs are attached to the carriage to increase or decrease the resistance you feel. Exercises are done with you sitting, kneeling, or laying on the carriage. You use the straps to pull the carriage with your arms or legs depending on the specific exercise you are doing. The combination of your body weight and the springs creates the resistance which can be quite substantial and give you a really good workout. These machines offer a great workout and they are really easy to use. You could get right on one and start working out with little or no instruction. The only drawback is that you need to have some floor space in order to use it. Many varieties will fold up, but they don’t fold up quite as easily as the Malibu Pilates Machine.

It will give you a pilates workout, but it isn’t quite as nice as the other machines. It is also hard to come by and frequently sold out.
